Nakia Henry

May 11 2011

Nakia Henry knows that everyone wants to be of value, that even the uplifters sometimes need to be uplifted. With her music, she seeks to remind the world of how powerful and creative we are. Her voice paints beautiful pieces for the ear to embrace and the heart to open to. She uses her performances to enhance the listeners’ connection to their own well-being, wanting them to walk away knowing that not only do they deserve love, but that they are loved. She lives on stage and is always seeking to create bridges and harmonies for the audience to connect to and find refuge in.

Nakia began creating art at an early age. Five to be exact. First the Detroit native began with dance, then she moved into acting in college and has now finally embraced vocals. Very soon after graduation from Fordham University, Nakia made her Broadway debut in Hot Feet, a musical that danced to the rhythm of Earth, Wind and Fire. Though she was a part of the ensemble as a dancer, while off stage, Nakia spent most of her time in the dressing room, singing. That very dressing room is where Nakia began to take her gift seriously. After the show closed, she began to work on her own vocal project. These elements combined with the understanding that everything is within, make up REMEMBER ME, her debut album intending to reunite the self with the Self.

Angela Carter

Dec 20 2010

When we understand the language of music to that in which transpires in tones of voice, then we know the sound of Angela Carter. Born and raised in Dallas, Tx this native is not in the blend of average-soul driven genres because she carries her music in a different hue. Angela began her path into music in church hall choir hymns. The coy and gifted writer scribed music to convey emotions and sometimes tame the soul. Now etching her name in the industry and bringing the strength of words with meaning in the range of a powerful voice, Angela is proving to the industry she is a songstress to reckon. Her newest hit single, “Love Anymore” has played on radio stations such as USR Live (urbansoulradio1025.fm). Angela has also opened with El Debarge Jr..In addition, she has sparked a new ear in fans as well as a loyal audience as she has featured on mixtapes such as Flight 101 (Da Jett Show), Marty B’s Mixtape “Oreos, Kicks, & Video Games” and “8 Degrees Cooler Than You”, and Supa Da Savior “Resurrection”. Angela has also featured in PlayTyme Magazine in Miami, FL. These decrees have moved her music awakening new listeners. The dedicated Angela Carter continues to follow her own lead working with other national artists while traveling throughout the country performing. By no means, does Angela have any notions on leaving the stage – she is the new sound. Check her music out at www.acartermusic.com. Thanks! Continue reading

Stik Figa

Dec 20 2010

From a small Kansas town in the county of Shawnee…” -Stik Figa. The Midwest landlocked state of Kansas brings a few images to mind: yellow brick roads, tornadoes, cornfields and a dog named Toto. But rapper Stik Figa hopes to change the perception of the plain state with good, honest hip-hop music. Born in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, John Westbrook, Jr. grew up in Topeka, the capital city of Kansas. While he lived in Topeka’s central neighborhood of Elmhurst friend Tiwanne (RIP) gave him a copy of GZA’s Liquid Swordz. Stik found the record abrasive, dangerous, introspective and smart. The experience changed how he viewed hip-hop and made him want to contribute. And contribute he has. Independent heavyweights El Da Sensei, Blackalicious, MURS and Phat Kat have all chosen Stik to open shows with his energetic flow. Stik draws on a southern style mixed with a Midwest flavor. His first southern influence came from his parents who are from Arkansas and Tennessee. His mom even contributed to his moniker after she commented on his thin frame. She told him he looked like a stick figure. His other southern roots come from experience. Stik has performed in Virginia Beach, Va., and Tampa, Fla., where he won talent shows and battles. His southern stint honed his craft on the stage and molded him into what he is today. Stik claims Memphis, Tenn., as his second home. He says places in the south like Memphis helped to develop his style as likeable, down-to-earth and honest. “My music is meat and potatoes with a focus on skills and honesty, something sorely missing from today’s current market,” Stik says.
